Price Per Unit Calculator
Compare grocery package sizes, bulk deals, and multipacks to find the true lowest unit price.
How to Compare Unit Prices Accurately
To compare two products fairly, their quantities must first be converted into a common reference unit (such as price per ounce, price per pound, or price per fluid ounce). Dividing the package price by the total normalized quantity reveals the true unit price, regardless of differing package sizes or multipack groupings.
Mathematical Formula
Unit Price = Total Package Price ÷ (Quantity per Pack × Multipack Count)Example 1: Cereal Box Size Comparison
Scenario: Box A costs $4.99 for 14 oz. Box B costs $6.49 for 20 oz.
Math: Box A: $4.99 ÷ 14 oz = $0.3564/oz. Box B: $6.49 ÷ 20 oz = $0.3245/oz.
Result: Box B is the best value, saving 8.95% per ounce.
Example 2: Single Bottle vs 6-Pack
Scenario: Single 32 fl oz bottle for $3.49 vs 6-pack of 12 fl oz cans (72 fl oz total) for $6.99.
Math: Single bottle: $3.49 ÷ 32 fl oz = $0.1091/fl oz. 6-pack: $6.99 ÷ 72 fl oz = $0.0971/fl oz.
Result: The 6-pack is the best value, saving 11.00% per fluid ounce.
